You do everything right, you don't speed, you watch where you're going, you take off slowly from green lights, you try to let people in. and despite all that you're really at the mercy of everyone else.
This was made obvious to me last night when an elderly woman ran a red light and broadsided me and Lochlan. She hit the driver's side - managing to miss me almost entirely - and spun us around so that my rear bumper hit the traffic signal pole and the rear passenger wheel broke off. Fortunately, Lochlan and I were okay.
I'm dealing with insurance and rentals cars and dealing with the likelihood that my car is totaled. I liked my car, I don't want a new car, I don't want to shop for a new car especially since we don't have the money to afford the car I really want, so I'm stuck buying something that will do until we CAN afford what I want. I dunno. we'll figure it out.
Then if the car isn't totaled, how comfortable will I feel driving it. will it even drive the same with so much damage. I don't know.
The important thing is that Lochlan and I are okay. I have a bruise on my knee and a scratch on my neck, Lochlan has a bit of seat belt burn on his collar bone, but given how much he was chattering, I think he's okay. He was a bit freaked with the accident first happened, but recovered faster than I did.
The other driver was okay, too. Still. one scary evening.
Hopefully I don't have to do this again. Yick.

Oh my-- I'm busy worrying about hypothetical accidents while you're having a real one! I'm so happy that you're okay! The car issue does suck. If only insurance could simply return YOUR old car just as it was without the worry about repairs...plus with some extra money to compensate you for the PIA that is dealing with insurance!
